Buddy Workshops

The goal of Buddy Workshops is to create an engaging and safe after-school program for low-income students and to foster a love for literacy and numeracy.

Curriculum: Reading

Students explore a wide range of novels curated by the Saint Louis County Library while working on increasing reading proficiency, discussion, and leadership skills.

During meetings, students work with buddies (high-school volunteer mentors) on icebreakers, popcorn reading, and discussion. Students receive tokens, or points, during the meetings for participation in activities. At the end of the meeting, students redeem their tokens for prizes!
Program Overview:

  • High School "buddies" across the STL area.

  • 1:6 buddies per student

  • No-cost book and snacks during each meeting

  • Engaging curriculum designed with administration and the Saint Louis County Libraries
